This game is insane.

Do not play if you are photosensitive or otherwise have trouble with quickly moving images or bright flashing lights.

The mechanics in this game are simple: hold spacebar to fill a gauge. Then maybe press ctrl to activate a second gauge and then hold ctrl to fill this gauge.
If either gauge fills completely, then you lose a life. If either gauge empties completely, you also lose a life.
Keeping gauges close to full awards bonus points, and sometimes bonuses will appear which can only be received by almost emptying the first gauge.
Keep playing until a high score.

The trick is, this game throws as much visual noise at you as possible to distract you from these goals. It will also invert and scale and wobble and blur the gauges to throw you off.
Very rarely does this seem unfair, with the only visually confusing technique I've encountered being changing the background to match the gauge.
Overall, it does a very good job of making the gauge levels distinguishable in some fashion, even whilst playing with your eyes and head.

It is a very intense visual experience and, as the achievement "\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665" might suggest, a very intense digital experience.
As such I would not play this game for prolonged periods of time, as otherwise you risk damaging your sense of balance and fingers.

But, in small doses, this game is remarkably fun.

The baby level is creepy though. Maybe don't play that one before bed.. It's basic.
If it looks or sounds interesting to you, it is probably worth it when on sale. I've played a long session about 4 times, each being about 20 minutes average. I have really enjoyed it, but it is strenuous on both your eyes and fingers.
I love it for it's unabashed sense of entitlement, which is probably why it turns people off.
It is a game for those who want to challenge themselves, as far as they can reach.
It is a game for people who like cats.
It is a game for people who like babies.
It is not a game for babies, or cats.
But I would recommend this game to most other people.. man, steam really, really needs a wobblehand recommendation option.

okay, so, since the trailers are pretty dubious and what not, i'll try to make this easy to follow.

this game is called gauge. you fill a gauge, you get points for filling the gauge, you get more points for having the gague as full as possible without overfilling it. sometimes a collectible happens, and you must drain the gauge to collect it, which gives you points and the ability to trigger a second gauge for even more points. you start with a point multiplier that increases at set intervals, and it also counts as your lives--run out of lives, and you lose. the entire game is controlled with the space and ctrl keys, and there is no pausing--once you start, you will keep going until you lose\/give up.

the game makes itself harder by tossing in flashy screens, text, audio cues, stylistic changes, screen-shaking\/zooming, and other such distractions to get your focus off the gauge--if you have problems with flashing lights or erratic motions, this isn't a game for you. it's simple enough to pick up, but difficult to master once the distractors start rolling in--they can happen at any time in any combination, so you have to keep on your toes.

would i recommend it? depends--it's a fun little time waster, and a neat game for what it is. that said, it's definitely one of those sit-in-a-hospital-lobby-and-watch-your-wait-time-fly-by games, so its value is diminished a bit on steam. still, it's fun, so if ou've got the money and notice it on sale, go ahead and give it a go. i see myself coming back to it pretty often in the near future.. If the controls for Super Hexagon were too hard for you, Gauge is here to help. Wait until it's on sale for $0.49. GAUGE is most definitely not a person that appears in 'films' for mature audiences.. Played for so long that I wished for death.

Is something wrong with everything being wrong?

PROS: The art is decent among the game, and the censored version actually doesn't detract too much from the overall story. It's relatively brief, and it's nice to have a visual novel where the characters are consistent the entire way through. Chris is the best character in the game, despite having a fairly basic personality, by breaking form with a lot of the tomboy stereotypes. She's not a tsundere, she's not overly butch, she's really not a tomboy...wait, where was I going with this?

CONS: All right, the main character is incredibly thick, to the point where I believe it could be argued that he's a parody of the naive, overly trusting male character. The music is hit or miss for the background. The main problem I have with the game is the message it tries to pull in the more serious choices that are made. Sure, I can clearly tell what they were trying to do (abuse is bad and ruins people's lives, regardless of what kind), but the way it's handled misses the point in any meaningful way. It feels a bit lazy in how it's handled, and the slapdash way it's resolved. Perhaps it's more frustrating that it's just 'resolved' with a quaint, 'it took some time, but we solved it' ending.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Since most of the choices don't affect the overall plot until the later half, it becomes fairly simply to breeze through.

FINAL: For a game with Tomboy in the title, it really was lacking it. It's a safe and basic visual novel that really won't offend anyone or push any boundaries, and could be recommended for that, but it came across as uninteresting, and with so many other games that handle such a title better, I can't see myself returning to this one.. i`m old end experienced H-gamer and that what i think about this game:
art - very nice
stroy - interesting and good written (thou main hero is an idiot)
music - also nice
thats it, i recommend it, fun game.

Create

You can start creating your ecosystems by placing plants and animals into your world. Having a variety of plants and trees will make the terrain more fertile and allow wildlife to flourish, while animals will begin to earn you points which can be used to purchase various in-game resources.

Nurture

Progress

Overall, I LOVE this game! I just want more added to it. You can see my notes below on things that are missing.

You play by putting down plants and trees from a certain biomes and they spread within an unseen radius. Once that is established you can place creatures. Everything is low-poly so you can have millions of them in the world without it blogging down your computer.

I love how the creatures literally all bounce, and how most of them are given a name. Not sure why but some species don't have names or sounds (like they forgot to put that in).

There is currently about 18 hours of gameplay with 60 tasks, 38 Animals, 105 Plants\/Trees, 17 Music Tracks. The best part is the evolution, which unlocks more plants, trees, and animals. There is overlap of where animals and plants\/trees can be placed so you can get your biomes to overlap in a cool way. And it feels like more content, rather than having one animal that can live in only for one biome. There are chances of random mutations, which if you like them, you just check box selective breeding.

There are currently 10 biomes (Grassland - 18 creatures, Forest 15, Riverbed 9, Desert 3, Snow 5, Jungle 7, Swamp 10, Lush 11, Woodland 18, Tropical 14) -> listed with creature overlap!

Even after you complete all the tasks, the world won't be full. And once you finish the 60 tasks you get a LOT of DP to spend so you can fill it up without waiting.

I really hope they add more content to it and also steam trophies! Not sure if it'll happen but that would be appreciated in my book. I want to play this more, but I would like more tasks\/challenges to complete. And more music tracks since they tend to feel repetitive after a while (they are calming, and I don't mind repetitive songs, but it does need more).

My biggest complaint is that in the game description says "raise hundreds of different species" - but only 38 animals exist in the world.

Overall, I got it because it's relaxing and I love animals.

Thank you for making the game ThinMatrix!. I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The music, the atmosphere, and the game play. It took me a hot minute to figure out but I was hooked. It's a relaxing game and very satisfying to just continue to evolve from one thing to the next. I absolutely recommend this game for anyone who enjoys the slower pace content.. I have never had so much fun watching grass grow.

This is probably the most relaxing game I have ever encountered. The music is soothing, the bouncing sheep are adorable, and it's fun to see the various colors that might spontaneously occur when mutations creep their way in. The objectives are not particularly difficult and the reward really is in the meditative experience of growing the biomes during game play.

This is a great one to play while de-stressing and just enjoying an afternoon.. The only reason I'm not recommending this game can be perfectly summed up a comment in the discussions about wanting biomes to spread naturally. As it sits right now all you're really doing is decorating the map with things. Sure you can change their colors and you occasionally unlock a new species but the core mechanic is you deciding where things go and they won't move much from that point.

Until biomes and animals start spreading naturally though it's just.. kind of.. dead feeling. So I'll still keep booting it up every now and then to place whatever new things they've given us.. but I won't truly enjoy the game until it starts to feel alive.. Cool idea, fairly well executed. I enjoyed the time I spent on the game, and felt I got my money's worth but not for me as a proper time sink.
Worth it at this price though.
